While I preferred the patterns on the above piece, Mary, my friend, was captivated by the swirling of the sand in this photo, taken by her.
I recently had the opportunity to take a class taught by Jiyoung Chung at the Mendocino Art Center. She is a contemporary Joomchi artist and is a wonderful human being. Since I misunderstood this assignment, I have combined lines and holes in this piece rather than choosing just one of these. We used mulberry paper from South Korea and squeezed, kneaded and stretched it until it achieved a certain state of preparedness.
And, one can't go to Mendocino without trying to take a photo that might capture the majesty of the headlands. Here is one of my attempts.
I'm back home now and am taking time this week to completely clean out my studio. It is a hodgepodge of things that don't work that well to hold anything so paper, scraps, pens, brushes, are everywhere. It's so difficult to find anything when I need it that I'm going to take everything out, including the carpeting. When it's all out, then I'm going to lay down floating cork and build shelving that really fits what I need it to fit. And, if I don't accomplish all of that, at least I'll have organized things for once and for awhile.
